Monday,January 20th,2014 was a day to remember and celebrate. While others in SL threw amazing parties, and tributes,SGS wanted to do something different. We came up with the idea of having An Exhibit that features some of the best MLK Art that has ever been out. This Man was a wonder to our nation, and we wanted to show the SL Community in pictures just how of a huge impact he really was.
We Had The Pleasure of having Kamille Kamala of Lyrical Cafe Bless Us With Amazing Words Of Wisdom from her own poetry. She woke up a few of our guest, and made them look more at themselves as a individual.
Our Founder LadyT blessed our guest with amazing poetry about civil rights, and how society is seen today, here’s a sample of LadyT’s Poem Titled: “I Realize” “It’s a shame how we still have to be in tune with the underground, Just to know what’s going on, No one offering the truth, Deception rolling in thick, I switch mindsets, When life is a constant reminder that things still aren’t right, That I still have to fight to be somebody, Because of the color of my skin”.
Our Amazing Exhibit featured amazing photos of MLK. SGS;s Vision was to captivate the eyes of all our guests,of the strong being Martin Luther King Was. From The Walk On Washington,to riots,to the boycott in 1955,to his amazing “I Have A Dream” Speech”,we really gave the community a different and deeper look inside.
We Also Heard Amazing Fact From our Fellow Sisters: Akatforlife,SGS Founder aka Big Sister Sho U Right and Feisty Damaino aka Big Sister Sassy Ass! Our Guest were shocked to learn a few things about MLK they didn’t know, here a few facts below:
“Although Martin Luther King Jr. was only 39 at the time of his death, autopsy results revealed the he had the heart of a 60-year-old. Doctors believed this was a result of stress.”
“King’s original name was Michael King Jr. In 1931, his father became pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta and adopted the name Martin Luther King Sr. When King was 6 years old, his father officially changed his name on his birth certificate to Martin Luther King Jr.”
“When King married his wife Coretta, the newlyweds were rejected by a whites-only hotel. The couple opted to spend their wedding night at a Black-owned funeral home.”
Those Were Just A Few Facts That Was Spoken By Our Founder Akatforlife.
